5-Day Devotional: Coming Events and Unchanging Promises

Reading: John 16:16-22; Psalm 30:1-5

Devotional:

Jesus warned His disciples that sorrow was coming, but He also promised their sorrow would turn to joy. Like a woman who forgets her labor pains when holding her newborn, the disciples would forget their grief when they saw the resurrected Savior.

You may be walking through a season of deep sorrow today. Perhaps circumstances have gut-punched you, leaving you breathless and discouraged. Jesus knew this day was coming. He sees your pain and sits with you in it. But remember—weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. The resurrection power that turned the disciples' mourning into dancing is the same power available to you. Your current sorrow is not the end of your story.

Application: Write down your current sorrow, then write beside it: "Joy is coming." Trust God's promise that the sun will shine again. 

Reading: John 16:31-33; Hebrews 13:5-6

Devotional:

Jesus told His disciples they would all scatter and abandon Him—yet He added, "I am not alone, because the Father is with me." This reveals a profound truth: even when everyone else walks away, God never will.

You may feel abandoned right now. Friends have scattered, family seems distant, and you feel isolated in your struggle. Perhaps you've scattered yourself—wandered from God's house into a far country. But hear this: Jesus stands on the shore of your life with a fire prepared, calling you home. He hasn't written you off. He hasn't thrown you away. The Good Shepherd leaves the ninety-nine to find the one.

God's presence doesn't depend on others' faithfulness—it depends on His character. And He is faithful and true.

Application: If you've scattered, take one step back toward home today. If you feel abandoned, declare aloud: "God will never leave me nor forsake me."

Reading: Matthew 7:24-27; Isaiah 40:6-8

Devotional:

The song declares, "On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand." In a world of shifting values and unstable foundations, God's Word remains unchangeable. The grass withers, flowers fade, but God's Word stands forever.

Where have you planted your feet? Are you building on the solid rock of Scripture, or on the sinking sand of cultural opinion, personal feelings, or human wisdom? The Holy Spirit guards God's Word—it cannot be improved, updated, or made irrelevant. From Genesis to Revelation, this Book is the inspired, inerrant revelation of God.

When storms come—and they will—only those built on the rock will stand. Your feelings will change, circumstances will shift, but God's promises never fail.

Application: Identify one area where you've compromised God's Word. Recommit yourself today to stand firmly on Scripture, regardless of the cost.

Reading: John 16:33; Romans 8:31-39

Devotional:

Jesus concludes His upper room discourse with this powerful declaration: "In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." Notice He doesn't promise the absence of trouble—He promises victory in the midst of it.

You will face tribulation. Life isn't fair. The world is broken. But Jesus has overcome it all. The resurrection proves that death, sin, hell, and the grave have no final claim on you. Because He lives, you can face tomorrow. Because He conquered, you can have courage today.

This is why we keep singing, keep serving, keep preaching, keep going. There's an unclouded day coming when Jesus returns—no more cancer, death, divorce, or heartache. Until then, we have peace in Him and the promise that nothing can separate us from His love.

Application: What tribulation are you facing? Speak this truth over it: "Jesus has overcome the world, and in Him, so have I."
